This issue of Cichlid News marks my last. I have been fortunate
to participate in producing the magazine since its inception in 1992 and
would like to thank all the authors, photographers and advertisers who
have contributed over the years for their support; obviously, they truly
represent the heart of the magazine. Special mention goes to Laif DeMason,
who first conceived the idea for the magazine and brings us What’s New
each issue, and Ad Konings who over the past several years has not only
contributed regularly to the content of the magazine but also preps the
layout of each issue for printing. I would only hope that my successor
continues to have their cooperation. Lastly, thanks to all of you cichlid-lovers
that read the magazine; obviously, without you there could be no Cichlid
News.
Now on to this issue. Who knows more about Lake Malawi than Ad Konings?
Once again, he provides us with an informative account of another component
of the lake’s cichlid fauna, this time on a quartet of species of Protomelas.
Next Wayne Leibel reviews the recent English edition of a landmark book
in the hobby, The Endemic Cichlids of Madagascar by the late Jean-Claude
Nourissat and Patrick de Rham. Then first-time author Willy Bijker from
Holland contributes an account of his experiences with Apistogramma
cacatuoides, one of the most colorful dwarf cichlids available in the
hobby. Pam Chin then introduces us to Neolamprologus savoryi from
Lake Tanganyika before Roger Bills takes us on a tour of the Okavango River
Delta in Botswana. Finally, Juan Miguel Artigas Azas continues his series
on Mexican cichlids, this time telling us the life story of one of the
lesser-known members of the meeki-group, Thorichthys callolepis.
Something for everyone . . . we aim to please!
