A spectacular male Retroculus xinguensis in the author’s aquarium.
A nest made of pebbles protects the young fry.
A female Retroculus xinguensis over the pebble nest.
When spawning finished, the pair gathered up the sand-covered eggs and placed them in a pile next to a small stone.
After pebbles were added to the aquarium, a nest was constructed. The eggs were gathered up and placed in this nest after spawning.
